International Literacy Day 2008

From 08-09-2008 to 09-09-2008 (Global event)

International Literacy Day 2008

In 2008, International Literacy Day will focus on the vital relationship between literacy and health. The theme for 2008 is “Literacy, the best remedy” in support of the United Nations Literacy Decade and thematic emphasis for 2007-08 on health.

International Literacy Day is held every year around the world on the 8th of September. The global event includes the awarding of the Prestigious International Literacy Prizes in Paris.

The day offers member countries in the Pacific the opportunity to advocate literacy for both children and adults. It is also an opportunity to recognise those involved in improving literacy in the community.

The UNESCO Office for the Pacific States will distribute promotional materials to member countries on the theme of “Literacy, the best remedy” in coming months.
