Meeting of the Council of Pacific Arts and Cultural Policy Workshop (Noumea, New Caledonia, 23-27 March 2010)

Cultural policy for sustainable and human development

UNESCO and the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) joined its forces to assist Pacific states and territories in the elaboration of their cultural policy and strategy.

The workshop held by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community in Noumea in March 2010 provided Pacific small island states and territories with training in cultural mapping and policy formulation. The participating nations and territories will apply the knowledge and skills obtained from the workshop to the actual mapping and policy formulation in the coming months.

Evaluation of the Festival of Pacific Arts

Prior to the workshop, the 23rd Meeting of the Council of the Pacific Arts (CPA) met and endorsed the recpmmendations of the evaluation report of the Festival of Pacific Arts with a view to enhancing its strategic role in the safeguarding and transmission of the intangible cultural heritage and strengthening cultural industries in the region.

The next Festival of the Pacific Arts will be held in 2012 hosted by the Solomon Islands.
