UNESCO Office Jakarta, UNESCO Regional Science Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, will organize a “Strategic Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Biosphere Reserves Networks: the Role of Biosphere Reserves in Shaping the Future We Want for All” from 22 to 25 April in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The meeting will be organized in collaboration with Viet Nam MAB National Committee and attended by the representative from Man and the Biosphere (MAB) networks in Aisa-Pacific region, i.e. SeaBRnet, EABRN, SACAM and PacMAB.
The meeting will serve as a discussion forum to
(i) Assess the accomplishment of Madrid Action Plan (MAP) in Asia-Pacific Biosphere Reserves (BR) as well as identify the follow up for post MAP actions:
(ii) Assess how Asia-Pacific BRs have been serving for Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and discuss the actions for Post 2015 Development Agenda e.g. regional policy actions to develop a road map for contribution to the new Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs);
(iii) Discuss the future activities of Asia-Pacific BRs to enhance the cooperation between BRs, and MAB national committees;
(iv) Link MAB Programme and BRs to the specific theme, such as Sustainability Science
The results of the meeting will be following up by the BR network in the region during their next meeting.
