4th International UNESCO Conference on Geoparks 2010, 9-16 April, Langkawi, Malaysia

Four hundred and thirty participants from 27 countries from every continent discussed geotourism, management, governing and policy-issues as they apply to Geoparks.

The Conference was opened by Her Royal Highness Princess Tunku Puteri from the State of Kedah, Royal Patron of the Langkawi Geopark, who was especially happy that the motto of this 4th Conference was “the natural way forward” focusing on issues of sustainability, one of the key approaches in any Geopark. She further expressed her hope that UNESCO would continue to respond proactively to support Langkawi and different regions of the world on the new Geopark initiatives for sustainable development and play a central role in this process. The Conference issued the “Langkawi Declaration”. More
