New partnership between UNESCO’s ACCESS-net centre and Korea Agency for Digital Opportunity established

A Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation to help overcoming the digital divide was signed by the Baku Scientific and Training Centre (BSTC) of Azerbaijan, a key member of UNESCO’s ACCESS-net, and the Korean Agency for Digital Opportunity and Promotion (KADO) on 11 May 2006, in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Representatives of the Ministries of Information and Communication of both countries, IT specialists, mainly heads of various IT organizations, as well as representatives of different organizations working on the ICT field and universities participated at the signing ceremony that was opened by Siyavush Azakov representing the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Republic
According to the MOU, both parties will promote cooperation and conduct exchange in various fields including bridging the digital divide, creating upgraded digital opportunities and enhancing economic opportunities by ensuring free access to information and communication services. BSTC and KADO also agreed to jointly implement cooperative activities through exchange of information, specialists, researchers, and other persons, technical training, exchange of experience and knowledge, facilitation of meetings as well as joint research, education and promotional activities.
BSTC has been playing a leading role in enhancing ICT capacity building in member countries of ACCESS-net (Association of Computer Centers for Exploiting Sustainable Synergy) since 1995 when its capacity was significantly strengthened by UNESCO in collaboration with UNDP under a half million dollar project.
KADO was founded in 1984 as Information Communication Training Center in the country. In 2003 its status was enhanced as a higher organization named Korea Agency for Digital Opportunity & Promotion. Since then KADO has been playing significant roles in reducing digital gap in favor of developing nations.
