Climate change is a truly global challenge. Addressing climate change requires involvement and action at the local, regional and global level, and Education has a central role to play in understanding, mitigating and adapting to climate change. With the generous support from the Government of Denmark, UNESCO’s Intersectoral Platforms on Climate Change, Education for Sustainable Development and Sustainable Development in SIDS jointly are organizing a Seminar which will focus on the role of education in addressing climate change, linking the local, regional and global contexts with particular emphasis on the challenges faced by SIDS.
The Seminar will convene around 60 participants from diverse stakeholders including national education and curricula development experts, climate change experts and representatives of education networks. It aims, inter alia, to promote the effective integration of climate change education into educational programmes and school curricula, contribute to the establishment of a UNESCO clearinghouse on climate change education and contribute to highlighting education in the UNFCCC COP 15 to be held in Denmark in December 2009.
