The country is covered by the UNESCO Cluster Office in Accra, Ghana.

Benin  hosts a UNESCO-UNEVOC centre for technical education and professional training in Cotonou.

The first Transboundary Biosphere Reserve in Africa was established in 'W' in 2002. This huge area (3,122,313 km˛), shared by Benin, Burkina Faso and Niger, is jointly managed by the 3 countries and constitutes a good example of a functioning Transboundary Biosphere Reserve.

Another of Benin's reserves, the Pendjari Biosphere Reserve, is among those taking part in a regional project entitled 'Building Scientific and Technical Capacity for Effective Management and Sustainable Use of Dryland Biodiversity in West African Biosphere Reserves'.
