Malawi


The country is covered by the UNESCO Cluster Office in Harare, Zimbabwe.

         

A UNESCO Chair in Renewable Energy was established in 1999 at the University of Malawi in Zomba to undertake research activities within the framework of the World Solar Programme. A demonstration solar village, serving 3000 people, was set up in Makanijira.


It is also involved in other research, conservation and integrated management projects, and benefits from the programme on Sustainable Integrated Management and Development of the Arid and Semi-Arid Region of Southern Africa (SIMDAS).
