UNESCO’s Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe (BRESCE) is located in Venice, Italy. The Venice office is focusing on South-Eastern European Member States.

The International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), a category I institute located in Trieste, is financed by Italy and operates under the aegis of UNESCO and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

One of the main objectives of the ICTP is to encourage and strengthen higher studies and research in developing countries. It hosts the academy of sciences for the developing world (TWAS).

Italy is participating in a large number of earth science projects that will enable it to better understand and analyse its complex geological history, and in broader, international projects as well.

Below you can access the projects that are currently being implemented in the country within the framework of UNESCO’s Natural Sciences Sector.
