On the recommendation of the MAB Bureau, the Director-General of UNESCO awarded the 2009 Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Preservation to the Autonomous Authority for National Parks (Spain) at a prize ceremony held in conjunction with the World Science Forum, Budapest (Hungary) on 5 November 2009.
