One of the youngest Biospheres is endeavouring to link up the World Network through art and culture: an invitation to participate.

Noosa, a town on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, Australia, with a population of approximately 54,000, has initiated an international travelling film and photographic exhibition. It is an exciting new exhibition of films and photographs from Noosa and other Australian and international biosphere reserves.

The title of the Exhibition is self-explanatory, and is endorsed by the MAB Programme: "Man and Biosphere - People, Stories, and Visions - a travelling international film and photographic exhibition".

In her film, “Biosphere”, Noosa Federation of the Arts Chairperson, Meg Lawrence, who created the concept of the exhibition, wants to demonstrate how science and the arts can interact and overcome all language barriers: “Art and culture is a vehicle to get our message to the world and offers an understanding of how man and biosphere can interact with each other.”

The Exhibition is being offered around the world as a community event.

Noosa Federation for the Arts is extending an invitation to all Biosphere Reserves to share your story or vision with the World Network by sending DVDs to be included in the Exhibition.

The deadline for receipt of DVDs is 20th August for inclusion in the preview in September 2010 to celebrate Noosa’s Biosphere Day, or 10th October for inclusion in the launch in late October. The Exhibition will then travel to the Biospheres in Great Sandy Straits, Queensland; Mornington Peninsula, Victoria; Fitzgerald, Western Australia; Devon, UK and then on to other participating Biospheres.

All material, whether film, slideshow, or still photos must be on DVD, and must not be longer that 10 minutes. More than one DVD can be entered.

Noosa’s film, “Biosphere”, which be seen on the Noosa Biosphere Ltd website www.noosabiosphere.org.au/explore/human-activity , may be used as a template or for inspiration.

Expressions of interest can be registered with Meg Lawrence or phoning (+61 7 5447 4292 or +61 417 002 512).
