The Co-chairs of the Sub-global Working Group for the follow-up to the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA) approved the project “Millennium Ecosystem Assessment in Bizkaia (EEMB)” as a sub-global assessment (SGA) for the MA Implementation process. The Secretariat of MAB is part of the consortium of International Partners of the MA. The consortium is charged with supervising the continued implementation of the MA conception framework and methodology at different scales and assessing the outcomes of the SGA. In addition the EEMB project includes the Spanish Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve in the study area.

The secretariat of MAB is supporting this project recognizing the Biosphere Reserve concept as a tool for implementing ecosystem services and human wellbeing approach (approach promoted by the MA). The Secretariat of MAB is also involved in this project as international referee for EEMB project. It participated in the first workshop on the EEMB project held in Bilbao on 27th November 2009.This project is implementing by The Regional Government of Bizkaia and the UPV/EHU UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development and Environmental Education.
