Congo Basin Biosphere Bio-Carbon Forum

The UNESCO MAB-Pro-Natura Congo Basin Biosphere Biocarbon Forum and Training Seminar was held in Brazzaville, Congo from the 21-23 April 2010, under the auspices of His Excellency Mr Henri Djombo, Minister of Forestry Economy, Environment and Sustainable Development of Congo, and President of the MAB International Coordinating Council. [1]

The Forum and Training Seminar brought together diverse stakeholders with an array of expertise and interests. Attendees included representatives from: the Government of Congo, the African Development Bank, the World Bank, private bio-carbon project developers, members of the biosphere reserve network in Central Africa, NGOs, academics, and members of the diplomatic corps. Discussions during the forum and training session focused on roles stakeholders could best play in working together through the biosphere reserve framework to combat deforestation, protect biodiversity, and realize opportunities in the bio-carbon market.

[1]  The planned event dates of 20-24 April were modified to enable the participation of stakeholders and experts whose travel schedule was affected by the cancellation of flights due to the volcanic ash cloud over Europe.
