An international high-level forum on ocean issues will be organized in 2010, as well as 1–2 international training courses on ocean dynamics and climate.

The courses will be hosted by the First Institute of Oceanography of SOA. As a part of the WESTPAC programme “Responses to Marine Hazards and Climate Change in the Western Pacific”, a regional cruise will be organized on board a Chinese research vessel under the flag of the IOC 50th Anniversary. An annual contribution of 10,000 USD is being made to the IOC Headquarters in support of the Anniversary activities during the period 2008–2011.

The organizers of the PIM XXXIII Conference to be held in Beijing from 2-5 September 2010 have just informed us of the availability of the second announcement of the Conference. You are invited to visit the Conference website and take part in the Conference. More

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), the State Oceanic Administration of China (SOA) edited and published the book of China and Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, which gives a comprehensive retrospect of more than 30 years’ history of the cooperation between the government of PR China and IOC since the year 1977. Twelve writers, including government officials, marine experts and former IOC Chairman, were invited to present their experience with IOC during different periods. Numbers of valuable historical photos are included in the book and provide a vivid panorama of milestones of the involvement of China in IOC’s activities.

HAIYANG is the Chinese version of the book of Oceans, the official companion volume to the challenging, breathtakingly beautiful nature film of the same name, created by Jacques Perrin and a crack team of scientists, cinematographers, divers, and technical specialists. HAIYANG was published by China Ocean Press with the financial support from the State Oceanic Administration of China (SOA), as a contribution to the 50th Anniversary of the intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC).
