Reseach cruises on board the ORV Sagar Kanya and the Sagar Nidhi were implemented from 14 July 2009 to 18 August 2009 within the Continental Convergence Zone (CTCZ) programme to study the role of Bay of Bengal monsoon.

Fifty participants drawn from various research and academic institutions participated in these cruises that carried out simultaneous measurements on ocean and atmosphere using various instruments including CTDs and Radiosondes. Both cruises lasted for about 30 days. (Photos)

As a contribution to the Anniversary, a marine natural hazards dedicated regional centre will be established in the country.
