National and international experts were invited to give talks on ocean science, management, ocean governance and marine policy, and participate in posters' sessions. The Conference provided opportunity for researchers, lectures and students from various organizations to present and share their findings and experiences in marine science researches. Presentations were given on "Thailand Marine Biodiversity Outlooks: Challenges and Opportunities", on "Thirty Years of Experiences in Marine Biodiversity Studies in Thailand: Lessons Learned" on "Ocean Observing Systems" and many others. Two parallel sessions were organized on coastal erosion and on cooperation of stakeholders in conservation on coastal biodiversity. 84 oral presentations and 70 posters were in the agenda of the Conference.
A scientific exhibition will be organized with the participation of the university, oil companies, research institutes, private sector and NGOs. One of the objectives of these events will be to promote the IOC activities and make UNESCO/IOC more visible to the scientific community and public at large in the country.
In November 2010 an oceanographic cruise was implemented in Andaman Sea with the support of the Thai and Chinese governments as a part of the IOC/WESTPAC project “Monsoon onset monitoring”. The cruise was under the IOC Anniversary flag.
Thailand joined in commemorating the Anniversary by producing souvenir items such as neckties and scarves imprinted with the Anniversary logo.
