    DBCP
    The Data Buoy Cooperation Panel organized the First IOC-WMO Data Buoy Cooperation Panel In-Region Western Indian Ocean Capacity Building Workshop from 14-19 April 2010 in Cape Town, South Africa. One of the objectives of the workshop was celebration of the IOC 50th Anniversary. More

    IODE
    IODE jointly with IFREMER, EU and some other sponsors organized under the IOC Anniversary logo an International Conference on Marine Data and Information Systems in Paris, from 29 to 31 March 2010. IOC/IODE Gallery is available on the IODE website.

    To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the IOC and of its first technical committee - IODE an international conference was organized in Liège Belgium from 21-22 March 2011. More  

    ODINAFRICA
    The ocean data and information network for Africa published in 2009 jointly with IODE and with the support from the Government of Flanders (Kingdom of Belgium) the book "African Oceans and Coasts" which addresses the challenges faced in ensuring that ocean and coastal data and information generated in national, regional and global programmes are readily available to a wide rage of users. More

    IOC Perth Office
    The following meetings are being planned for 2010 in Perth, Western Australia - all of which we will be badging as IOC 50th Anniversary events (ref: IOGOOS-7 + IOP-7 + SIBER-1 + IRF-1 are all meetings in Perth, in parallel during 12-16 July 2010). There will be also a meeting of IOGOOS/SEAGOOS/WAGOOS in conjunction with BLUElink, Australia, to plan a major Capacity Development project (for the application and utilisation of ocean forecasting systems in the IO/SEA regions) in Perth, on 9-10 July 2010.     IOCWIO
    The 8th Session of IOC for Western Indian Ocean will be held in 2010. It is planned to consider input of the countries of the region to the 50th Anniversary celebrations. More information will follow. 

    GOOS
    The 5th GOOS Regional Forum dedicated to the Anniversary is planned alongside with the EuroGOOS meeting. GOOS provided support to the publication of the 2010 Calendar dedicated to the 50th IOC Anniversary and took a lead in the organization of the demonstration of posters dedicated to the oceans along the fence of the main building of UNESCO during the days of the IOC Executive Council when the Anniversary will be launched. website

    WESTPAC
    The 8th session of the IOC Sub-Commission for the Western Pacific was held from 10-13 May 2010 in Bali where the contribution of the region to the 50th Anniversary was reviewed. In order to better coordinate and further enhance the visibility of the IOC and celebration activities for 2010–2011, the WESTPAC Secretariat is taking appropriate steps to widely disseminate the information and facilitate the implementation of those activities. The template for the activities in the WESTPAC region dedicated to the 50th Anniversary of the IOC was developed and distributed to the Member States of the region. More

    The Ministry of Land, Transportation and Maritime Affairs (MLTM) of Republic of Korea and the IOC/WESTPAC have joined hands to organize the 8th IOC/WESTPAC International Scientific Symposium entitled "Ocean Climate and Marine Ecosystems in the Western Pacific", in Busan, Republic of Korea, 28-31 March 2011.

    The Objective of the Symposium is to bring together marine scientists, particularly young scientists inside and outside the region with a view to encouraging an interdisciplinary approach towards the management and sustainable development of coasts and oceans with growing challenges of climate change. More

    During the 8th IOC/WESTPAC International Symposium the Certificate and Commemorative Plate award ceremony has been organized and few experts from the region were decorated. More 

    In November 2010 an oceanographic cruise was implemented in Andaman Sea with the support of the Thai and Chinese governments as a part of the IOC/WESTPAC project “Monsoon onset monitoring”. The cruise was under the IOC Anniversary flag. (Photos)

    Horiba International Conference on "New Direction of Ocean Research in the Western Pacific" was organized in Japan from 26-29 October 2010 to consider past, present and future of UNESCO/IOC/WESTPAC activities for 50 years and the JSPS project "Coastal Marine Science". The conference was implemented with the support from the University of Tokyo and the Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute (AORI). More
