Forum of Ministers for Social Development from Arab States
After Latin America, Southern Africa, West Africa and Asia, it was the turn of the Maghreb Region, Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon to have a Forum of Ministers for Social Development. On the initiative of Morocco’s Minister for Social Development, the Family and Solidarity, the Forum was officially launched during a meeting in Marrakech, Morocco, from 30 April to 1 May 2007.
This Forum brought together Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia. It is the fifth regional forum to have been created since UNESCO’s MOST programme first launched the initiative of providing a forum for policy makers and researchers in the social sciences.

Apart from the Forum’s official launching, the Marrakech meeting aimed in particular to identify the region’s priority needs and set up a sustainable structure to respond to those needs.
