Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service (CCIVS)
www.unesco.org/ccivs

The Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service (CCIVS) was created in 1948 under the aegis of UNESCO as an international non-governmental organisation responsible for the coordination of voluntary service worldwide. CCIVS has 140 member organizations present in more than 90 countries. The Section for Youth has a close working relationship with CCIVS and partnered with it on numerous activities in 2001, the International Year of Voluntary Service.

A more recent example of the cooperation with CCIVs is the manual ‘Act, learn and teach – Theatre, HIV and AIDS’, a toolkit for youth in Africa. This toolkit was designed for youth groups and is largely based on a workshop held in Uganda organized by the Eastern African Work Camps Association (EWACA) that brought together approximately 30 youth volunteers from several African countries, Canada and India to learn about the use of interactive theatre in response to HIV and AIDS in English-speaking African countries. It includes a manual, CD-ROM and posters.
