Sub-regional workshop of experts in ethics teaching in Côte d'Ivoire
A workshop of experts from Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Senegal and Togo will be held in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, from 3 to 5 December 2008. They will discuss and analyse existing teaching programs in the field of ethics and bioethics.
The Ethics Education Program of UNESCO is mapping existing teaching programs in the area of ethics in the Member States of UNESCO to respond to the needs of ethics teaching in Member States. In this context, UNESCO in collaboration with the National Commission of Côte d’Ivoire and the University of Bouaké are organizing a sub-regional meeting in Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire) from 3 to 5 December 2008 for experts from West African francophone countries.

Objectives
  • To describe existing ethics teaching programmes (bioethics, ethics of science and technology, fundamental ethics) in Francophone sub-regional countries
  • To develop a network of experts in the teaching of ethics in West Francophone Africa
  • To establish a future plan of action on how ethics teaching programmes can be linked to existing Ethics Masters programme in the sub-region
  • To encourage the establishment of UNESCO chairs in Bioethics and Ethics of Science and Technology in the sub-region

  • Ethics teaching in Mali - Dr Samba Diop
  • Ethics teaching in Senegal - Prof Aminata Cissé Diaw
  • Ethics teaching in Togo - (Prof Koffi Gnamey and Dr Komi Kouvon)
Dates: 3-5 December 2008

Organisers: UNESCO Headquarters, UNESCO Office in Dakar (BREDA), National Commission of Côte d'Ivoire, University of Bouaké in Abidjan

Participants: maximum 20 persons from 6 to 8 countries

Venue: Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire

Responsibilities:
UNESCO Paris and BREDA: Scientific and technical preparation in terms of selection of participants and additional fundraising
Hosting national organisations: Accommodation, facilities and meals for participants, media
