Bioethics in the Arab and Eastern Mediterranean Region
Bioethics in the Arab and Eastern Mediterranean RegionAn initiative of UNESCO and the Eastern Mediterranean of the World Health Organization (WHO/EMRO)
UNESCO and the Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean of the World Health Organization (WHO/EMRO) have decided to start a bioethical initiative in the Arab and Eastern Mediterranean Region in order to join their efforts to plan and implement various bioethical projects together. The UNESCO Cairo office (UCO) is the focal point for bioethics and ethics of science and technology projects for UNESCO’s Member States in the Arab region. WHO/EMRO has been playing a significant role concerning medical ethics in the region since 1980s. Both UNESCO and WHO are committed to the principle of “delivering as One” which is a corner stone of UN reform at the country level.
