Brazil - The Rocinha Orchestra
UNESCO, with funds collected in Germany, helped create an orchestra of 120 children to encourage deprived Brazilian children to grow through music.

In Rocinha near Rio de Janeiro lies the largest slum in Latin America. Several hundred thousand people live there, crammed together in insalubrious and dangerous proximity. Crime, drug and disease rates are high. There is little future for children outside of crime. Thanks to assistance from UNESCO, armed with funds collected in Germany, an orchestra of 120 children was put together. The poorest children and most vulnerable blossomed with their music. The Rocinha Orchestra has now toured Brazil and Europe.
