Pakistan – Earthquake relief with “Help and Hope”
With the active support of the German foundation “Help and Hope”, UNESCO provided survival assistance to hundreds of families shortly after the devastating earthquake that hit the Pakistani regions of Kashmir.

UNESCO support concentrated on the severely-affected but near-inaccessible district of Bagh where a supply depot in the valley served as a base for the distribution and transport of relief supplies. After the visit of UNESCO ambassador Mrs Ohoven in April 2006, the reconstruction of 2 schools was arranged. Lessons were taken up again in provisional quarters by the summer while the foundations for the new buildings were laid. Engineers from the Aga Khan Foundation offered professional advice.
