Regional seminar of African Clubs for UNESCO
Commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
Within the framework of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, UNESCO organized a 2-day Regional seminar of African Clubs for UNESCO in Bamako (Mali) from 15 to 16 December 2008 that addressed Human Rights issues most particularly in the fields of competence of UNESCO, i.e. combating HIV/AIDS, fight against racism and achieving universal education in rural areas.
The Seminar was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Mali, S. Ex. Mr Amadou Toumani Touré and was attended by some 800 people including 5 Ministers from the Malian government, local authorities (Governor and Mayor of the district of Bamako), Parliamentarians and members of Clubs for UNESCO.
More than 50 participants representing Clubs for UNESCO from 30 African countries reflected upon how Clubs for UNESCO can further assist UNESCO at the grass-roots level in the field of Human Rights and a three-year action plan was adopted.
