Third International Conference of Cairo: "The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 60 Years After: Between Rhetoric and Reality"
Organized in the framework of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
 
The objectives of this Conference are:
  • To revitalize the role of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in Africa and in the Arab world
  • To foster exchange of experiences and consolidation of ties between African and Arab NHRIs and NGOs
  • To stimulate a meaningful participation of NHRIs and NGOs in the process of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), in light of the experience of the first 16 countries reviewed during 2008 within the Human Rights Council of the United Nations
  • To analyze lessons learned and promotion of best practices among NHRIs and NGOs
  • To set up a permanent “Forum of Dialogue” on “Human Rights and Democracy” between NHRIs, NGOs and Arab and African Parliaments
