International Conference on Human Security in the Arab Region
A major international conference on human security in the Arab States will be organized by the League of Arab States, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and UNESCO, in Cairo (Egypt), from 15 to 16 December 2008.
 
The notion of human security appeared in 1994 in the Human Development Report of the United Nations Development Programme and has kept evolving ever since.

During the conference, representatives of 22 Member States of the League of Arab States, academics and civil society actors from the region as well as international researchers and experts, will be invited to debate on what human security means to them.
