Sub-regional round table on the theme of “Sport for Development and Peace” in TanzaniaThis meeting, initiated by the Sector of Social and Human Sciences of UNESCO, in cooperation with the UNESCO offices in Bujumbura and Dar es-Salaam, was jointly organized with the government authorities of Tanzania. It was aimed primarily at the Ministers Sport of the eleven countries of the Great Lakes region, the National Olympic Committee and social actors interested in the topic.

It was followed by an international congress organized by UNESCO, in collaboration with the Government of Jamaica, in Kingston, from 13 to 16 September 2008, to deepen the reflection initiated during the round table.

At the end of this congress, a reference document, brought together the discussions and recommendations expressed. The document was then submitted to the Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS) of UNESCO so that the governing bodies of UNESCO can become acquainted with it during their sessions in 2009 at UNESCO Headquarters.
