Human Rights-Based Approach to Programming: UNESCO’s Response
A learning module for UNESCO Directors and Chiefs of Section,
(Ermenonville, September 13-14, 2005)
Objectives

The overall purpose of the proposed 2-day orientation in a human rights-based approach to programming for UNESCO Directors and Chiefs of Section was:

To further familiarize the participants with the core elements of the human rights-based approach to programming

To discuss its implications for UNESCO and,

To seek their guidance and support with regard to the concrete action required to mainstream human rights in UNESCO.


Expected Outcomes

  • Better understanding of fundamental human rights principles and of core elements of the human rights-based approach to programming;


  • Recommendations on the most effective way of mainstreaming human rights in UNESCO;


  • Agreement on the capacity building efforts further required within the various Sectors/Divisions, the type of support that can be provided to the ‘resource persons’ of each Sector, and
    the assistance expected from SHS/HRS/HRD.
