Strengthening MOST's governance
In line with the Recommendations (Sixth IGC MOST, 19 - 21 February 2003) later approved by UNESCO's 166th Executive Board Session (see 166 EX/41 and 166 EX/Decision 3.1.4), the governing bodies of the MOST programme are given a pro-active role in the shaping and ultimate approval of strategies and programmes. They also have a greater role in the establishing of relationships with national research centres and policy makers.

The expected results of this expanded role would be the better institutionalization of a broad and transparent consultative process and an overall increase in programme efficiency.

The role of the IGC Bureau has been considerably strengthened due to its involvement in the staging of various events including: the biennial statutory Intergovernmental Council (IGC) session and an annual consultation with the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC).
