International Colloquium: “Market(s), society(ies), history and the future of humanity”
The Foundation Gabriel Péri and the Foundation Rosa Luxembourg are organizing, in partnership with the French journal La Pensée, an international conference on the theme “Market(s), society (ies), history and the future of mankind” at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, on 13 and 14 November 2008.
 
Supported by the French and German Commissions for UNESCO, the conference will be an opportunity to exchange and share information between researchers and citizens from various disciplines and backgrounds. It will focus on three relevant areas:
  • Mercantile relations and societies in history.
  • Markets and States - Classes and cultures.
  • Markets’ control, regulation and excess: which paths should be taken?
Participants from eight countries will attend: Brazil, Chile, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and the United States.

The sessions will be introduced by Christina von Fürstenberg, Chief of UNESCO's Management of Social Transformations (MOST) Programme. They will meet in Room IV, at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, starting at 9am.

The working languages will be French, English and Spanish, and interpretation will be available.
