First meeting of the Board of Directors of the Palestinian Women's Research and Documentation Center was held 19 June 2007 in Ramallah.
 
PWRDC Board Meeting The inaugural meeting of the Board of Directors of the Palestinian Women’s Research and Documentation Center (PWRDC) was held on 19 June 2007 on the premises of the Center. Board Members, including the Minister of Women’s Affairs, H.E. Ms Khouloud Daibes and the Assistant Director-General for the Social and Human Sciences (ADG/SHS) Mr. Pierre Sané, discussed a number of issues notably:
  • Signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Palestinian Territories and UNESCO to govern the Center;
  • Future legal status and Bylaws for the Center,
  • Role and functions of the Board of Directors.
It was also decided that the Board will meet three times per year; that consultations will be held with relevant Palestinian parties on the future legal status of the Center. Members of the Board of Directors of the Center for 2007-2009 are:
  • Mr. Pierre Sane, Assistant Director-General, Social and Human Sciences sector, UNESCO
  • H.E. Ms Khouloud Daibes, Ministry of Women’s Affairs
  • Ms Fatina Wathaefi who will normally represent the Ministry
  • Mr. Loay Shabaneh, Chairman, Palestinian Central Board of Statistics
  • Ms Eileen Kuttab, Institute of Women’s Studies, Berzeit University
  • Ms. Hadeel Rizq-Qazzaz, Heinrich Boll Foundation
  • Ms. Khadijeh Habashneh, General Union of Palestinian Women
  • Mr. Elias Sanbar, Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to UNESCO
  • Ms Zahira Kamal, Director, PWRDC (ex-Officio member)
  • Mr. Zaid, Palestinian Committee for Education, Culture and Science, (Observer)
The Palestinian Women’s Research and Documentation Center was established in collaboration the Palestinian Ministry of Women’s Affairs as a “Special Project” of the Social and Human Sciences Sector of UNESCO, further to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the two parties on 13 May 2005. Opened in January 2006, the Center’s goals are to support the development of policy-oriented research and research-based policies that promote gender equality and the human rights of Palestinian women. It also serves as an observatory on the status and condition of Palestinian women and a clearinghouse on information related to women’s issues in Palestine.
