Not available in English. Available only in French Certains courants de la pensée moderne présentent souvent la femme comme un être singulier et souvent en retard sur la voie du progrès. Mais, tenter de saisir la réalité individuelle féminine en tant que telle reviendrait à la poser comme une entité rigidement structurée, qui se distinguerait de l’homme par essence. Or, dans les sociétés africaines, aucun individu, homme ou femme, n’est un lieu de rapport singulier, unilatéral et unidimensionnel. La personne humaine se saisit et se définit par rapport à autrui. Mais, cet autrui auquel on fait réellement référence, c’est l’homme (vir) considéré par la littérature traditionnelle comme le pilier fondamental, le seul élément généalogique à partir duquel on peut promouvoir sa descendance.
