The role of women in reconstruction: experience of Rwanda Presentation delivered at gender consultation on "Empowering women in the Great Lakes Region: Violence, peace and women's leadership" in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, June 2005 |
The contribution of women in peace building and reconciliation efforts can become most effective by increasing their participation in decision-making organs and in the implementation of policies at institutional and community levels. In the last 11 years, significant steps have been made to bridge the gender gap and this is mainly attributed to government’s commitment to gender equity, the promotion of equal opportunities, and measures taken to address the post-genocide consequences. | |
