Second World Urban Forum (UN-Habitat), organized within the Universal Forum of Cultures (Barcelona 2004)
UNESCO is the main partner in this year's Universal Forum of Cultures in Barcelona (Forum Barcelona 2004).
 
Second World Urban Forum (UN-Habitat), organized within the Universal Forum of Cultures (Barcelona 2004)During the Forum, which runs from 9 May until 24 September, UN-Habitat is holding its second World Urban Forum the week beginning 13 September.

"Cities: Crossroads of cultures, inclusiveness and integration?" is the World Urban Forum's theme this year.

UNESCO is taking part in two of the Partners Dialogue sessions and organizing three of the Networking Events:

  • 13 September: Round Table of experts on social sustainability in historical districts

  • 14 September p.m.: Rivers and Urban Culture (m.yang@unesco.org)


  • 14 September p.m. and 15 September a.m.: Dialogue on Urban Realities: Best practices in fighting discrimination and exclusion in cities (g.solinis@unesco.org)


  • 16 September: Dialogue on Urban Governance - Democratic urban governance as key mechanism of partnerships towards public regulations.(g.solinis@unesco.org); and speech by Pierre Sané, Assistant Director General for Social and Human Sciences


  • 16 September: Second joint working meeting UN-Habitat/UNESCO co-chaired by Ms Tibaijuka, Executive Director of UN-Habitat and Pierre Sané


  • 17 September: "Growing Up in Cities" Networking Event with David Driskell, Cornell University (n.auriat@unesco.org)
