Sri Lankan judge Christopher Gregory Weeramantry wins UNESCO Prize for Peace Education
Award Ceremony on 21 September 2006, International Day of peace.
Sri Lankan judge Christopher Gregory Weeramantry wins UNESCO Prize for Peace EducationChristopher Gregory Weeramantry received the 2006 UNESCO Prize for Peace Education "in recognition of his ongoing commitment and concrete work in support of the concept and culture of peace throughout his long and fruitful career".

The Sri Lanka judge will be awarded the $40,000 prize at UNESCO Headquarters on 21 September, International Day of peace.

The Fundación para la Reconciliación (Colombia) has been chosen to receive a Special Mention "in recognition of its efforts in introducing the concept of 'emotional literacy' as a means of promoting reconciliation and forgiveness".
