UNESCO Prize for Peace Education 2006 - Award CeremonyUNESCO Director-General Koïchiro Matsuura will present the Prize on 21 September, International Day of Peace, to the Sri Lankan judge Christopher Gregory Weeramantry.

He received the 2006 UNESCO Prize for Peace Education "in recognition of his ongoing commitment and concrete work in support of the concept and culture of peace throughout his long and fruitful career".

The Fundación para la Reconciliación (Colombia) has been chosen to receive a Special Mention "in recognition of its efforts in introducing the concept of 'emotional literacy' as a means of promoting reconciliation and forgiveness".

To mark the celebrations of the International Day of Peace, the ceremony will be preceded by a Round Table on “Culture of Peace Today”.
