This Eco-tourism project’s geographical zone extends from southern Brazil through Uruguay to the wet Argentian Pampas and has a network of nearly 50 ecomuseums, principally cattle-farms. Its main objectives are not only to encourage small and medium-sized producers, cultural agents and artists to work together to promote a welcoming form of tourism but also to propagate the gaucho way of life which is the liveliest equestrian culture in the world.

This project is being conducted by the Argentine CEPA Foundation (Centre for Environmental and Studies Projects) and FLACAM (Latin-American Forum of Environmental Sciences). The itinerary, which combines nature, culture, local crafts and rural know-how starts in Buenos Aires Province between cities of La Plata and Mar del Plata and follows several splendid rural tourist circuits: Rio de la Plata, Historical Cities, Lakes and Beaches, and Sea and Mountains.

This new tourist and cultural package bears the MERCOSUR stamp because circuits will shortly be opened in Uruguay and Brazil where the gaucho thrives on the pampas.

The project aims to:

  • Preserve and develop the region’s cultural and natural heritage;
  • Provide an alternative to "sun and sand" tourism;
  • Experiment with sustainable growth;
  • Improve management of water, land and biodiversity.
