The Director-General of UNESCO, Koïchiro Matsuura, today sounded the alarm on the occasion of World Day for Audiovisual Heritage saying that the heritage of the 20th century is threatened because of the decay - and in some case deliberate destruction - of fragile supports. As well as sounding the alarm about such important historic testimonies, UNESCO concluded a partnership with France’s National Audiovisual Institute (INA), which has undertaken to digitize and make available online the Organization’s rich film archives.
