First International Forum on Media and Information Literacy

UNESCO supports the First International Forum on Media and Information Literacy (MIL) organized by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities Sais-Fes, University Mohamed Ben Abdellah, in Fès, from 15 to 17 June 2011. Invited participants will discuss the benefits that the integration of media education and information in school curricula can provide on the level of human development, building-up civic societies and intercultural dialogue.
This Forum is considered the first of its magnitude since UNESCO initiated the blending of the two concepts, media literacy and information literacy, to empower audiences to be aware of the functions of media and other information providers, more critical and discriminating in their reception, evaluation and use of information and media. Another objective is to strengthen stakeholders’ capacity to develop their critical thinking and to apply it when sorting and analyzing all the information received.
