Conference on "Public Broadcasting in South East Europe"

UNESCO participated in the conference on “Public Broadcasting in South East Europe” organized by South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO) - a network of editors, media executives and leading journalists from South East Europe and an affiliate of the International Press Institute (IPI) - and its partner RTV Slovenia, and in cooperation with Austrian Development Agency – Austrian Development Cooperation.
Participation in this conference was very important because UNESCO has been active in building capacities with the PSBs in the region by co-facilitating the establishment of the ERNO network. The ERNO network includes 12 public broadcasters in the SEE region.

Secondly, SEEMO is a partner organization in implementing a new project on Media Self Regulation where emphasis has been put on public broadcasters. The project will be implemented with the EC support. The main objectives were to encourage and accelerate media reform in beneficiary countries, consolidate European standards and bring about more media protection, professionalism and independence.
