Workshop on Access to Public Held Information with a Development Perspective

This workshop, which was proposed on the agenda of the Third Meeting of the Internet Governance Forum, seeked to explore the issue of access to public held information, a core element of the right to freedom of information (FOI) as a fundamental human right, particularly in the context of development.
Built on a series of UNESCO initiatives aimed at exploring the link between access to public held information and sustainable development and empowerment, the workshop discussed the overall challenges and opportunities for promotion of the universal access to public held information brought by the Internet, and developed strategies as to how FOI could be made more visible on the development agenda by more countries in the area of information society.
