Summary of the book: A novel in two parts covering the period from 1920 to 1990. It exposes the meanders of a category of the Jordanian society in Irbid, then in Amman.

Reasons for this choice: It addresses the social changes on man and his environment. The personality of Fahd is the cornerstone of the family as he tries to change the world through the microcosm of the Jordanian society. We observe the social and psychological changes of human characters in the context of major political events with the ensuing radical transformations they bring to their lives. We observe the different impact and effects it has on them, leaving them to their diverse destinies. The author received the National Award for this novel in 1999.
