Summary of the actvities
Due to our lack of contact with blind people’s life experience, "blindness" sometimes means a frustrating obstacle both to enjoy literature and also to carry out other activities, such as translating a foreign language. Aware of this social and cultural problem, two years ago we started a two-phase project.
During the first phase, we gave an elementary English course and in 2008’s second phase we are carrying out an English-Spanish translation workshop for young/adult blind and sighted people at the Rosario’s Blind and Amblyopic People Unity Movement. We count with the voluntary collaboration of English teaching and translation students from the "Olga Cossettini" Higher Education Institute.
Our aim is that blind and sighted participants experience a change towards practices and interpretations respectful of coexistence among human beings with different gifts. We expect that the accomplishment of the project translates into the acknowledgement that blind and sighted people should gradually have an equal access to educative, expressive and job opportunities.
