Summary of the activities
The U.S. Department of Defense Schools in South Korea holds an annual Foreign Language Festival and Competiton for students in Secondary Schools. There will be over 200 participants in this day long event.
There will be cultural activities, language workshops, and language competitions. Students will present memorized poems and be interviewed in the language they are studying, which included Chinese, French, German, Korean, Spanish, and English as a Foreign Language. This will also included students from our Sister Korean school. Several cultural activities are planned: Latin dance demonstrations and instruction, Korean drums demonstration and instruction, Chinese calligraphy class, French cooking class, Korean Traditional Dress and photos, and traditional music. There will also be a Professional Korean Dance Performance.
There are workshops also that students may attend: Careers in languages with guest linguists and military linguists, Critical language classes - Chinese and Arabic. Two students will act as the Master of Ceremonies and introduce the UN Theme.
There will also be two guest speakers, the Superintendent of the District, and the Base Commander at the Hosting school. We hope to promote language learning, respect for other cultures, and unity through diversity.
