joseph.JPG Namibia Celebrates “Radio in Our Everyday Lives”

UNESCO Windhoek Office celebrated World Radio Day on the 13th February 2013 with five activities in Namibia under the theme “Radio in our everyday lives”.

The activities included (i) Special programming in all 19 participating radio stations,(ii) A three-day capacity building workshop for 30 local radio station personnel focusing on ICTs and sustainability, (iii) A radio parade in Windhoek to raise the visibility of the day (iv) A four-hour outside broadcasting event for the radio stations in Namibia and (v) Open houses at Namibia radio stations for school children and journalism/communication students.

These activities were organized in collaboration and partnership with other UN agencies in Namibia, the Ministry of ICTs and with the participation of 19 radio stations. The events were made possible through the sponsorship and support from Deutsche Welle- Akademie (Berlin), The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia(CRAN), TELECOM Namibia, Coca Cola Namibia, The Namibia Broadcasting Corporation, Trans Namib among others.
