Strengthening sub-regional cooperation and national capacities in seven Southern African countries for implementing the 2003 convention for the safeguarding of ICH
The first workshop is taking place in Harare, Zimbabwe from 18 to 20 March 2014.

Within the framework of the UNESCO/Flanders Project entitled; “Strengthening sub-regional cooperation and national capacities in seven Southern African countries for implementing the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage”, UNESCO Harare Multisectoral Regional Office is organising a meeting from 18th March 2014 to 20th March 2014 in Harare, Zimbabwe.
















The objectives of the meeting are twofold:

1. Provide training to at least two participants from each beneficiary country on the scope and objectives of the implementation of the 2003 Convention at national level with a focus on inventorying, preparation of international assistance requests and nomination files among others; and

2. To define and agree on the specific actions aimed at strengthening policy, legal and institutional frameworks of the beneficiary countries with reference to the provisions of the 2003 Convention and the Operational Directives.

The workshop is attended by two participants from each of the seven beneficiary countries (Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe) and falicilitated by Mr. Chifunyise of Zimbabwe and Mr. Mazibuko of Malawi as well as Mr. Marc Jacobs, of Flemish Interface Centre for Cultural Heritage (FARO).

The achieved objectives of this workshop will set the stage for the second phase of the project to be implemented at the national level, having the paramount goal of developing/reinforcing the national capacities for the implementation of the 2003 Convention.
