Chad joined UNESCO on 19 December 1960. It is covered by the Organization's Cluster Office based in Yaoundé (Cameroon).

UNESCO and Chad’s joint action is particularly strong in Education for All, especially for girls. Training teachers at vocational and technical institutions is another priority.

Chad also works with UNESCO in protecting its natural and cultural heritage. The country has nine sites - including the Archei region’s natural landscape and rock art - on the World Heritage Tentative List.
