Egypt: ASMAE-CARITAS with UNESCO
ASMAE-CARITAS with UNESCO is supporting street children in Egypt by helping them re-integrate their families and society.
Egypt: ASMAE-CARITAS with UNESCO Phase I of this project consisted of financing and creating a tailor-made mobile unit. This mobile unit, which is now fully operational, offers children immediate educational, social, and medical services on the street. It is hoped that the mobile unit will start to change negative attitudes in the community (police, public) towards street children in a visible fashion. The mobile unit allows for the transportation of activity materials used with the street children by social workers, providing rapid medical intervention in emergency cases, and privacy for counselling and guidance, as well as a suitable shelter, especially in the winter season, for both the children and social workers. It is also, at times, a protection for the children and social workers from aggressive street leaders.
