Russia – Post-war assistance for Chechen children

This project, which organized four rehabilitation camps, contributed to improving the emotional and physical well-being of 88 traumatized children through the provision of psychological, pedagogical and medical assistance.

Even though the Chechen education sector has been able to continue operating in many cases, the issues of 1) rebuilding and equipping schools, 2) writing relevant Chechen cultural and historical curricular materials, 3) retraining teachers, 4) meeting the needs of an entire generation of traumatized children, remain very real. Since the outbreak of the current conflict, people have lived in unstable conditions, lacking basic security, shelter, sanitation, and adequate food supplies. Most children from Chechnya have not been to school regularly for several years. This project, which organized four rehabilitation camps for a total of 96 days, contributed to improving the emotional and physical well-being of 88 war-affected and traumatized children through the provision of psychological, pedagogical and medical assistance.
