Argentina – Hogares Don Bosco
The Hogares Don Bosco were set up in 1985 to protect and care for street and working children in Buenos Aires, as well as provide formal and non-formal education.

Argentina – Hogares Don Bosco The outskirts of Buenos Aires stretch for many kilometres and attract countless desperate rural migrants. Often children from such backgrounds take to the streets to survive, fleeing parental violence, alcoholism and cramped conditions at home. On the streets, they quickly get sucked into ‘ranchadas’ or gangs where drugs, prostitution and delinquency are common.

The Hogares Don Bosco were set up in 1985 to protect and care for street and working children. Children are in daily contact with street educators and urged to join in life at the nearest shelter where they can sleep safely, receive some food and get a little human affection. Certain principles of non-violence and solidarity are stipulated. Educational guidance in the form of literacy, numeracy and instruction in AIDS, hygiene and nutrition are part of daily life. Scores of children and adolescents live in the shelter/hostels, but many more come to visit regularly. There are now seven hostels run by Don Bosco in Buenos Aires.
